Hurricane IDA: UTPMP El Salvador started the campaign “Don’t Stop, they need a home where to spend this Christmas”
“The hundreds of dead, 12,000 affected people and over 250 damaged houses, generated a lot of pain to us, as Salvadorans. That is why we invite everyone to join their efforts in order to alleviate the pain of the hundreds of families who lost their homes during Hurricane IDA”, explained Gerardo Calderón, Social Director of Un Techo para mi País El Salvador.
These declarations took place during a press conference at Plaza las Américas, best knows as El Salvador del Mundo, which aimed to launch the campaign “Don’t Stop, they need a home where to spend this Christmas”, which goal is to collect as much funds as possible before the end of 2009, the only restriction to keep constructing.
Moreover, Gerardo Calderón announced that this weekend, Un Techo para mi País will start building the first 15 emergency houses at a national level, in the community Las Palmeras de Cantón Melera situated in El Pimental San Luis Talpa, areas affected by Hurricane IDA.
In Cantón Melara, 60 families lost their houses when the river overflew. They are all living in shelters. The houses UTPMP El Salvador will construct are situated in a safe field donated by the Mayor’s Office.

Thus, UTPMP has become the first project for construction of emergency houses in the country. They have a rapid capacity to respond, they only need donations from private donors and companies.
“We want to build 100 emergency houses for these families before December, and that can only be possible with your help”, concluded Calderón.
